Senior Citizens Match Report 23rd May 2023

Today's match was against Rosehill played in lovely sunny weather.

We were warmly welcomed, as always, by Rosehill and the match got underway slightly early as everyone was present.

Both sides had newer members amongst their players and all enjoyed the afternoon playing on a well kept green.

The results went mostly to Rosehill but Griffin managed to draw on one rink and save a whitewash. Shots were 54 to Griffin and 87 to Rosehill,

Griffin 1 point Rosehill 9 points.

Senior Citizens Match Report 30th May

We welcomed Whit Hern to Griffin today. The match was slightly delayed as 5 Whit Hern members got stuck in roadworks en route.

The match was played in conditions more like winter as a cold wind blew across the green all afternoon.

The results went mostly to Whit Hern who won on three match rinks and Griffin won one rink. Shots were 54 to Griffin and 78 to Whit Hern

Griffin 2 points Whit Hern 8 points.

Senior Citizens Match Report 6th June

Today's match at Cheshunt was played in very varying conditions, one minute warm and then a very cold wind across the green. All players, both home and away, found getting the right line quite difficult.

Griffin 2 points Cheshunt 8 points. We are presently supporting the table with 5 points after 3 games

Senior Citizens Match Report 20th June

Today's match was played away against Harlow. Despite a thunderstorm and heavy rain in the morning the green had dried out and played. It was a hot afternoon but a welcoming breeze blew across the green. We had several newer players playing this afternoon who enjoyed the match and learned about trial ends.

Harlow won on all rinks, one was a close result. Shots were 40 to Griffin and 107 to Harlow. We still have 5 points

Senior Citizens Match Report 27th June

It was a warm afternoon for the return match against Harlow but an occasional breeze blew across the green. Having lost on all rinks to Harlow last week, today we improved by winning on two rinks, giving us 4 points. Shots were 58 to Griffin and 76 to Harlow.

We now have 9 points and are still supporting the league.

Senior Citizens Match Report 4th July

In contrast to last week we were met with overcast conditions at Bantham and Ongar. As everyone was there early we started before 2pm which was just as well as the heavens soon began showering us with rain. We bravely carried on to complete the necessary 10 ends for a match. Several of our side had not played on an artificial green before and everyone stoically carried on through the rain. Back in the club house we were revived with tea and biscuits and pleasant chatter.

We lost on all four rinks, one of them by just one shot. Shots were

Griffin 17 and Bantham and Ongar 56.

We still have 9 points and are still supporting the league.

Senior Citizens Match Report 11th July

We welcomed Rosehill to Griffin this week and had an enjoyable afternoon. The weather had fun with us by adding some brief light showers between the sunshine.

We lost on three rinks and drew on the other rink giving us one point this week. Shots were Griffin 51 and Rosehill 71.

We now have 10 points and continue to support the league.

Senior Citizens Match Report 18th July

We went to Whit Hern this week and had ideal bowling weather, warm and dry.

We lost on three rinks and won well on the other rink giving us two points this week. Shots were Griffin 60 and Whit Hern 73.

We now have 12 points with four more games to play this season.

Senior Citizens Match Report 1st August

Today's match was a home game against Cheshunt played in good bowling weather. We won on 3 rinks with 89 shots to Cheshunt's 48.

Pauline Ellis, Carole Saville and Matt Cable scored 9 shots on the sixth end of their game and this feat will be sent up to Bowls England for their hot shots award. Many congratulations to them on achieving this on a game they won 30 shots to 9 shots.

Senior Citizens Match Report 8th August

Today's match was an away game against Rosedale which was played in steady drizzle with slightly better weather after tea. We won on 1 rink and had 36 shots to Rosedale's 85.

There is one more match before the gala day(August 29th) when we will be playing Bantham & Ongar at home. Gala day matches will be played in whites at the Hertfordshire clubs this year.

Senior Citizens Report  15th August

We have now played our last league match of the season, this was against Bantham & Ongar. The result was a win on three rinks and a loss by one shot on the other rink. We finished bottom of the league this year with 30 points.

I would like to thank everyone who has played this season and hope you have enjoyed your bowling. I am proud of how everyone has bowled this season and how our new bowlers have grown and become a great addition to the Senior Citizens.
