We aim to open in April as always, but adhering strictly to the government guidelines. More details soon!
Members are now allowed to play singles or pairs. 3 rinks are
available for play at the same time, and all rinks MUST be booked in advance. All slots
are for TWO hours and must be booked through the email
firstname.lastname@example.org Rules are in place for sanitising
all equipment, and supplies are available, although it would be
helpful if you could bring your own. The clubhouse is shut so
everything is kept outside on a trolley. The outside toilet is available
for use and the key for this is also on the trolley.
We are running a few of our club competitions and they will be
starting in a week or so.
Unfortunately, for the moment, we are not inviting any visitors to
come and play.
We hope that things are going to improve rapidly now and that we
will soon be able to use all 6 rinks. The top green is out of action for
the rest of the season for maintenance.
March 7th 2020
In March, before the corona virus hit us all with lockdown, we
celebrated the success of last year's ambitious new project to
introduce the game of bowls to youngsters with additional needs and
adults with early onset dementia. The sessions took place
throughout last summer and all our colourful and fun equipment and
disability aids were put to good use.
For our work, we were presented in October with the Active
Harlow's Community Club Award and in December with the
LoveFisherBrown Award. This is a National Award set up by Disability
Bowls England to recognise clubs who provide disabled bowls
opportunities. So on March 7th , in front of a crowd of more than 50
which included club members, representatives from our special
groups, Council Chair Clive Souter and our MP Robert Halfon, our
chairman Terri Pratt was presented with a trophy and a super
wheelchair. George Babalev, representing our National Bodies and
presenting the award, said our club was one of the best organised he
had come across and congratulated us on having such success in
such a short time. To quote our Club Chairman: "What a year we've
had and we look forward to continuing with both groups as soon as
Congratulations to everyone who has been involved with the setting
up and running of these sessions throughout last year.

Well done to The Griffin
At the end of November, Ann entered the club for The LoveFisherBrown Award. This is a National Award, created to recognise clubs that provide disabled participation opportunities for their bowlers.
In an unexpected phone call George from the BDA said we had been declared winners beating 11 other clubs from all over the country, mostly indoor clubs and some quite high profile! WOW!
We will be presented with a Para-handy wheelchair with our logo on it, a trophy and certificate and all will be presented at a special celebration event later in the spring. There'll be lots of publicity and recognition for the club.
The assessors from both Bowls England and Disability Bowls England were most impressed with the work we are doing, so well done and a big thank you to everyone who was involved throughout the summer.
30th October 2019
Congratulations on a brilliant result
The town's sporting world came together for an evening of celebration at the Civic Centre.
The Active Harlow awards celebrate local sporting achievements and this year were presented by Harlow Paralympian, Noel Thatcher MBE. Ann, Terri, John Barwick and Daniel attended.
The Griffin Bowls Club was nominated for the 'Inclusive Communities Award' for all our work with disabled youth and the adults with early onset dementia. You will all have seen the hardwork undertaken on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons last summer, so big congratulations to everyone who worked so hard as we were chosen by the panel as the winner, and were presented with a trophy and a certificate and a couple of tokens for the club.
Well done everyone!
Daniel had been nominated for 'Sports Personality of the Year'. Well done to everyone who voted for him, and he was amazed and delighted to be declared the winner!
Well done Daniel.
